Department of English

Overview:

The department of English, is devoted to teaching linguistics, language, and literature. It introduces students to a variety of linguistic concepts along with their practical application, and literary works produced during various historical eras while focusing on the contemporary global literary landscape. The English Department has proudly seen itself as a primary proponent of the liberal arts that has undergone a number of organizational changes since its establishment over a decade ago. Years of experimentation have resulted in substantial growth of the department, continuing from when it was a sub-campus of UOG. We aspire to nourish the same spirit of growth in our future ventures that strongly emphasize the significance of academic excellence, and a strong research culture starting from the introduction of the post-graduate programme in English in the coming year.

Vision:

We want to instill in our students a love of learning, reading, and language. In order to ensure this, we aim to offer students a clear curricular framework and pertinent, well-structured courses incorporating contemporary ideas in the fields of language and literature. Various literary, analytical, pedagogical, and theoretical skills will be taught. Students will learn excellent speaking, reading, and writing techniques, and will be encouraged to think critically. We shall promote a passion for education and respect for an education in liberal arts.

Mission:

The English Department aims to promote critical thinking among students by helping them gain a deeper understanding of language and literature, while emphasizing the importance of efficient reading and writing along with a study of literature in all its diversities.
