Description
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in English program offers a comprehensive study of the English language, literature, linguistics, and their various applications. It includes core courses in British, American, Pakistani and World Literature, as well as foundational studies in linguistics, writing, rhetoric, and cultural analysis. The linguistics component covers areas such as phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics, providing insights into language structure and use. Students engage with critical theories and historical contexts to develop analytical and communication skills. The program also allows for electives and specializations such as computer assisted language learning, film studies, and digital humanities. Practical experiences like internships and capstone projects enhance real-world skills, preparing graduates for careers in education, writing, editing, public relations, and more.Objectives
The program reflects the noble mission of the University. The keynote objective of this program is qualitative improvement in the holistic learning experience and language proficiency of the students and producing graduates who can hold on their own in the face of the 21st century and its global challenges. English, today, is accepted and celebrated as a global necessity. The program is designed to take balanced care of national needs and international demands. After completion of this degree program, the learners will be able to: ● Display substantial proficiency in oral and written English; ● Demonstrate knowledge of the core linguistic and literary concepts and their various applications; ● Understand and use critical concepts and terminology, both in literature and linguistics; ● Express the ability to respond to and interpret a range of text types effectively; ● Analyze individual texts and make comparisons between them; ● Appreciate the significance of social and historical context in analyzing text; ● Trace and recognize the major traditions in research on selected issues/themes; ● Conduct a small-scale research study in an area of interest; ● Enhance their employability in various fields, such as media, communication, teaching, and other relevant fields.Eligibility Criteria :

Description
We aim to produce professionals in Linguistics who are equipped with a critical understanding of Linguistic; issues in local and international contexts and to prepare them for advanced research. The aim is to train graduate students, who go on to use their knowledge of and proficiency in Linguistics in diverse patterns of academia. MPhil in English Linguistics program aims to provide students with an awareness of critical issues in language and language teaching and the latest research conducted worldwide. The program aspires to equip students with the skills required to make considerable professional contributions to the field. The program allows them to investigate the structure of language and acquaint themselves with the theories of language acquisition.Objectives
- To enable students to reflect on the structure of language and theories of language.
- To develop a higher level critical thinking capability in students
- To enable them to make original contributions in the prevailing linguistic and cultural diversity in Pakistan,
- To steer learners through a well-structured and most updated curriculum, academic activities, and innovative teaching approaches for improving their personality and unlock their potential to be successful in this ever-changing and highly competitive job market
- To foster entrepreneurial skills among students.
Eligibility Criteria :
As per the Rawalpindi Women University’s Admission Policy Eligibility Criteria for M. Phil. English (Linguistics)- At least sixteen years of education or equivalent qualification in English or 4 years education (at least 130 credit hour) after Intermediate or Equivalent for admission in M. Phil. English (Linguistics) degree program.
- At least 50% marks in the annual examination system or 2.50/4.00 CGPA in semester
- system or 65% marks in semester system where CGP A is not mentioned in terminal degree.
- In case CGPA or percentage (%) obtained by the candidate is not mentioned on the
- If both CGPA and percentage (%) of marks are mentioned on the transcript, the preference shall be given to the CGPA.
- A minimum 50% score is required to qualify the Departmental subject wise test.
- Valid GAT-General conducted by the National Testing Service with the minimum 50%
