Chemistry Lab

Introduction:

Chemistry has played a crucial role in understanding the composition of the universe and living organisms, the impact of substances on the environment and living beings, and human health. It has also enabled the application of various materials for the betterment of humanity. The progress of research in chemistry has since fueled advancements in energy, food, clothing, shelter, medicine, engineering materials, information technology gadgets, and other essential aspects of life. Recognizing the integral role of chemistry in human progress, Rawalpindi Women University is successfully running comprehensive chemistry programs (BS and MPhil). These programs offer specializations in core branches of chemistry. With a team of highly qualified, energetic faculty, state-of-the-art laboratories, internal collaboration and a resource-rich library, the Department of Chemistry is dedicated to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle national and international research challenges. The department also provides opportunities for internships, enhancing students’ intellectual and technical capabilities.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Department of Chemistry and Research Labs is to address the most demanding chemical challenges of our time while nurturing the next generation of innovative scientists and leaders. And also committed to contribute to the intellectual and economic advancement of the country, the province, the nation and the world through the discovery and development of new knowledge and addressing problems of societal relevance.

Currently Research Activities in the Department of Chemistry:

Currently, the following research activities are carrying out in the department;

  • Synthesis of ternary metal oxides, particularly for use as cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries.
  • Modification of metal sulfides to enhance their performance in environmental applications
  • Graphene based metal oxide nanocomposites for biomedical applications.
  • Synthesis of single source precursors and etching of MXene.
  • Organic synthesis and biological applications.
  • Organic framework and nanomaterials for molecular and ionic Sensing.
  • Green synthesis of organic compounds
  • Isolation of natural products from medicinal plants.
  • Development of polymer composites for biomedical and environmental applications.
  • Development of greener bioplastic as packaging material.

Vision for the Future:

This research will provide new knowledge in specific departmental focus areas (nanotechnology, environmental and energy applications, organic synthesis, natural product chemistry, biological & health science, materials & interfacial science) through peer-reviewed publications, conference proceedings, and patent disclosures.
